The 45th District Democrats is a place where people of shared values come to advocate for public policy and to participate in our democratic system.

Participation in the political process is inherently public. Disclosure laws often require the disclosure of your name and occupation and the amount given, in cash or in kind, for contributions to campaigns and other political organizations.

You control how much of your private information you share with us. If you choose to divulge information, you should expect it will be used to further the purposes of the 45th District Democrats. This Privacy Policy applies to data collection and usage by the 45th District Democrats.

Our Infrastructure

We collect information in a variety of ways. Our collection sites and methods include, but are not limited to, MailChimp, Facebook, ActBlue, Action Network, Hustle, Twitter, SurveyMonkey, SignUpGenius, Google, WordPress and its third-party suppliers, VoteBuilder, CallFire, and others. We also collect information via paper means, through participation in surveys, in-person conversations, and petition drives. You may decline to share information with us.

We collect and use information from public voter registration databases. You cannot limit our access to voter registration information. You can notify us that you do not want to be contacted and we will make reasonable efforts to remove you from our contact lists.

Collection of Your Personal Information

When you communicate with the 45th District Democrats, we may ask for your name, address, telephone number, email address, and other information. We use the information you provide to send you news and updates. We work closely with Democratic candidates, parties, and allied organizations and may share information with them, and they may contact you.

You may have accounts with Facebook, Google, and other services that use cookies. If you do not want to share information gathered by those cookies with us, you will need to adjust the settings in your browser to turn off or limit access to cookies when visiting 45th District Democrats’ sites.

When you sign on a petition, we treat your name, city, state, and any comments as public information. We may share petition information with local, state, and national leaders. We may also make your comments, along with your city and state, available to the press and public online.

When you contribute money, services, or in-kind items, under state election law, we may be required to disclose to the Public Disclosure Commission the following information about you: name, address, amount of contribution, date of contribution, employer, and occupation. Federal law may require us to collect and report your name, address, employer, occupation, and the amount of your contribution. Currently, we are required by federal law to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employers of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year to the Federal Election Commission. These records are available to the public. However, they cannot be used by other organizations for fundraising. For additional information, visit the FEC website at fec.gov.

Use of Your Personal Information

We collect and use your personal information to operate our sites and deliver our services. These services may include the display of customized content based upon the information we have collected.

Examples of customized content include advertisements we deliver to you about events, opportunities, or happenings that we believe you may find of interest based on your past activities with us or others. We do this by using remarketing or similar audience features through services such as the Facebook pixel, Google AdWords, and/or DoubleClick’s pixel. Those third-party vendors place cookies in your browser and track your activities across a variety of sites. They also deliver ads to you based on your interests across a variety of sites. You can manage your advertising settings with your browser settings or at optout.networkadvertising.org.

We may hire other companies to provide services on our behalf, such as handling the processing and delivery of mailings, providing customer support, processing transactions, or performing statistical analysis of our services. We provide those companies the personal information they need to deliver the service.

We may be asked to disclose personal information when required by law, such as when we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with an appropriate law enforcement investigation, current judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our website.

Collection and Use of Children’s Personal Information

We are a site intended for voting adults (persons age 18 and older). We do not knowingly contact or collect personal information from children under 13. Our site is not intended to solicit information of any kind from children under 13. If you have reason to believe a child under the age of 13, for whom you are a parent or guardian, has provided us with personal information, please contact us with the information so we may remove it promptly.

How Do We Secure Information?

We use standard security measures to protect against intrusion into our sites and information under our control. Highly sensitive data including credit card information is secured through the use of encryption. Credit card payments are processed by ActBlue, which is PCI compliant. In plain English, they conduct security tests to protect credit card information, including quarterly security tests and annual external audits. Changes to This Policy

We will occasionally update this Privacy Policy. When we post changes to this Policy, we will update the effective date. Your continued interaction with our sites and services after the update constitutes your agreement to the change. If there are material changes to this Policy or in how we will use your personal information, we will post such changes prior to implementing the change. We encourage you to periodically review this Policy to be informed of how we are using your information.
