Legislative Action Committee

Our legislative Action Committee seeks to identify priority legislation, educate our members and lobby our legislators and other Eastside legislators to enact it. We do this yearly in the following steps:

  1. Identity priority legislation that did not pass this session.
  2. Add proposed legislation that aligns with our values.
  3. Confer with our legislators to identify their priority bills.
  4. Assemble a Draft Priority List for the upcoming session.
  5. Present this draft of priorities to our members before or early in the session for approval.
  6. Monitor the progress through committees and onto the floor of the house of origin and report on progress, urging our members to lobby those legislators not yet in support.
  7. Monitor the progress through committees and onto the floor of the opposite house of origin and report on progress, urging members to lobby those legislators not yet in support.
  8. Report on the results at the conclusion of the legislative session to our members. Seek to find adjustments to legislation that did not pass.

At present the committee barely has enough active membership to monitor the legislation through the process. With more help or by working with allied interest groups, we could more effectively communicate and lobby for our priorities.
